Choosing a ghostwriter

Many of my authors can write well but just don’t know how to write a business book. So, they struggle to get ideas out of their head and shape them into a narrative that tells their story in the way they want. This is when I step in as a business ghostwriter to help them. Every ghostwriter is different of course, which is why when choosing a ghostwriter you select someone who’s not only good with words but also has the experience and personality that’s right for you.

Working together

Choosing a ghostwriter Ian Phillipson Business Ghostwriter
As a business ghostwriter, I produce words for those who don’t have the time to take on a major writing project.

So, am I the right ghostwriter for you? I don’t know yet, but others have chosen me as their business ghostwriter …

… because I’m a safe pair of hands. I’ve made my living writing words for over 20 years. That includes producing many ghostwritten books, as well as five published in my own name.

… because I’ve also a strong commercial background. I’ve worked as a copywriter and marketing consultant for headline names like Yamaha, Taser, Thames Water, Teacher’s Whisky and Lloyds Private Banking, for instance. I was also Communications Advisor and Strategist to The Countryside Agency, the one-time UK government’s organisation for rural businesses and communities.

Hands-on business experience

… because I’ve hands-on business experience. With four years spent as Communications Director of a PR and marketing agency, I’ve helped companies from start-ups to corporates put their message across. That’s useful when it comes to helping you position your book in the marketplace.

… because I’m good at translating complex information into engaging and persuasive stories. Some of my clients are in technical fields, so I know how to organise a wealth of information, bringing it together in engaging ways that explore and explain often complicated ideas and concepts.

Choosing a ghostwriter - Business Magazine Editing Experience
My background editing business magazines ensures I know how to write a compelling story.

Take a look at some of my ghostwriting work and you will get a good idea of what I can do.

“Ian has a wealth of experience in his industry and was able to advise me every step of the process in ways that went beyond the scope of the task. Communication throughout was fantastic and reassuring. The quality of writing is superb and exactly what I was looking for and well researched. You brought ideas to the project I would never have thought of. The project came in on budget and early.” Rus Hawkins, Node Studios Ltd

As well as writing books, I’ve also edited five magazines, three of them from launch, which means I’ve the project management skills to complete large editorial jobs to budget, brief and deadline. So, I’ll be able to give you a realistic timeline and identify some of the issues that we’re likely to encounter. You can find out a bit more about me here.

Writing in your voice

… because I have a ‘wide comfort zone’. My experience as a business ghostwriter means I’ve the ability to write in a variety of styles, so I can create a book in a ‘voice’ that’s uniquely yours. If you’re not sure what your voice is, I can help you find you find it. And if you want to inject some humour into the words, that’s no problem. I used to be a scriptwriter for top BBC comedy shows.

… because I always look to add extra value to what I do – something the authors I work with seem to appreciate. As this tech entrepreneur was kind enough to say:

“Such a great experience. Together we went from a disorganised ‘hairball of ideas’ to a cohesive story, entirely due to Ian’s expertise.

You can see more kind words from my authors here.

Don’t wait …

… because I can help you find the best place to start. It’s understandable that you will want to create the best business book you can. But that shouldn’t be an encyclopedia of everything you know. I can help you get to the heart of what you want to say. All that other knowledge needn’t be wasted. In fact, it’s often better your knowledge is spread across multiple books, especially if you are writing a thought leadership title, which will need updating every few years in any event business is changing so fast.

So, let me help you become the author of a business book. Call me on 01432 761480, email or schedule an initial discussion here.
